Want to Upgrade?

Hostel Shoppe has a trade-in program for recumbent bikes and trikes, which allows you to easily get some money towards a new bike or trike and upgrade your ride. Plus, you don't have to deal with the hassle of trying to sell your old trike or bike, which can be difficult in today's online marketplace.

How to get started...

If you are interested in pursuing a trade-in, the best place to get started is to email us some photos and other details at salesstaff@hostelshoppe.com. This is very helpful if you are coming from an area further away from the Hostel Shoppe.

Photo Tips:

  • Take photos in a well lit area or outside.
  • Don't have a lot of clutter in the background. Take the photos in front of your garage door or a blank wall or an area with minimal objects.
  • Take photos of the bike or trike from a variety of angles like our example. The drive side is important and a few closeups are helpful.
  • Send bigger photos of high quality. Do not shrink them down to the smallest image size. You can send multiple emails and only attach a few photos to each email, if you are concerned the size of the photo will prevent the email from sending.
  • Document any damage.

Other Things to Include in the Email:

  • Serial number if you have it.
  • Age of the bike or trike.
  • Are you the original owner or did you buy it secondhand.
  • Condition of bike or trike, including new parts or damage.
  • What accessories are you including in the trade-in?
  • What are you looking to purchase new?
  • Contact Info: Your name, best telephone number and email address to reach you at, and a good time to reach you.

What to Expect

A Hostel Shoppe staff member will reach out to you with a trade-in estimate range. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate. Also, you are not going to get full price for it, as we have to tune it up and resell it. It is similar to trading in a car.

Once you set up an appointment and bring the trade-in to us, our mechanics will do a full mechanical assessment on it to ensure it meets our trade-in guidelines for safety and we will settle on the final trade-in price. The trade-in price will then be applied to your purchase of the new bike or trike.

Cash for Clunkers!

From now through the end of February 2026, we will be offering a cash for clunkers trade-in deal! If your old recumbent is too worn out, needs tons of work, is super old, etc. and doesn't meet our safety guidelines, we will still offer you a minimum of $250 to be applied to the purchase of a new trike or bike for your trade-in.
