Catrike All Road Review

It was a sunny morning in November and I was one of the first people to have the pleasure of taking the new Catrike All Road for a spin. Temps were in the 50's, so while it was a bit brisk out, it was still a great day to ride. My first impressions of the trike were that it was very comfortable with the Catrike padded seat cushion, and easy to get onto the trike, with it's higher seat height comparable to the Catrike Villager, roomy cockpit, plus the easy-to-use locking parking brake levers. The seat back angle is adjustable with four settings similar to other Catrikes, but for those of you who don't like to ride in a reclined position, the highest setting is very upright. You get a great view of the road and trails ahead!
Heading out of the Shoppe parking lot, I headed for the trail. I wanted to try the trike on pavement, grass and gravel to test out the gearing and the full suspension. The All Road is equipped with a microSHIFT 1 x 10 speed drivetrain, including a bar end shifter and a wide range 11 to 42 tooth cassette. The gearing is low enough to handle off-road terrain and gravel trails, while the 20 inch wheels with wider rims had great purchase in the gravel with Schwalbe Big Apple Performance 20 x 2.0 inch tires, yet it also had some decent speed on the pavement in the higher gears. It is also quick to accelerate from a full stop. Being equipped with 20 inch wheels all around, this trike is great for quick acceleration, hill climbing and gravel trails, plus you only need to carry one spare tube size.
I was really impressed with the plush ride of the full suspension and the cushiony Big Apple tires. I've been riding a Catrike 5.5.9., which I love, but on some of the bumpy Wisconsin roads, which get chewed up from plows and freezing and thawing in the winter, it can be a bit jarring at times when you hit a rough patch of road. The All Road is equipped with Catrike's patented proprietary anti-dive front suspension with .5 inches of travel, which utilizes Cellasto elastomers, and a Rockshox Deluxe Select rear air shock with 2 inches of travel. The All Road's full suspension did not disappoint as I went over curb cuts, grass and gravel, soaking up the bumps for a super smooth ride.
The All Road also includes all of Catrike's standard bells and whistles, including a left side Mirrycle Mirror and mirror mount, a built-in headlight mount, Catrike flag mount and flag, rear fender, dual sided platform/clipless pedals, computer sensor mount and wrist rests. Plus, it is easy to accessorize with all of their optional accessories, like the rear rack, quick adjust to accommodate multiple riders in a family, neck rest, stand up aids, suspension front fenders and right side mirror mount and mirror. You can also add mounts, bags and other accessories from brands like T-Cycle, Radical Design, SoundWinds and more, which allows you configure it to your heart's desire for exercise, touring, commuting or recreation.
While the all Road does not fold, the lower height of the 20 inch wheels and the ability to fold the seat down for transport, will give you low profile that allows you to more easily put it in the back of a smaller SUV, wagon or pickup truck with tonneau cover or topper. It can also easily fit on a rear hitch rack designed for recumbent trikes.
The All Road is also available in an e-assist version with the Bosch Active Line Plus Motor with a Purion display, 400 Wh battery and the SuperNova Mini 3 headlight and TL3 taillight. Full suspension is really going to enhance the ride of the e-assist version at faster speeds, soaking up those bumps as you fly down the road or trail.
The All Road's addition to the Catrike lineup aligns with the company's 25th anniversary. To celebrate a quarter century of manufacturing in Orlando, Florida, the All Road will be available in Catrike's Star White color option through the end of 2025, as well as limited-edition colorways of Electric Sky and Atomic Mango. Catrike will produce only 25 of each limited colorway with custom graphics commemorating Catrike's 25th anniversary, which you can call us at 800-233-4340 to special order.
The All Road and All Road eCat will be available in 2026 in their full line-up of vibrant colors. Hostel Shoppe is currently accepting pre-orders for all colors with a 90 day wait time, so you can have your new ride in time for spring!
If you're looking for an all-purpose trike that will handle a variety of terrain and riding styles, with maximum comfort, I highly recommend the Catrike All Road, which will give you lots of versatility and incorporates some of the best features of all of their trikes, like the Dumont, Villager, Trail and Max. Stop in and visit to take it for a test ride today!
